about

✿ Story/Context Time ✿

"ISOLATION" is a vent comic I created in 2015 to exhume the pent-up suppressed feelings I was stuck dealing with while I was in high school, under strict house rules, and having no means of continuing to create my work on a computer of any kind.

I don't know how many of you grew up with your entertainment/escapism things being taken away and curtly dismissed as "distractions" and "meaningless", but... It doesn't sit well with a 16-year old who doesn't get it and works much differently, I guess.

So for months, I was stuck just sitting in my room staring at a wall with nothing other than the incessant and undecipherable homework in my face until I "figured it out".

After a long amount of time of being irreparably upset with no way of expressing it lest I got told to "shut up"... and, admittedly, UNDERTALE being a significant influence on me at the time to just get out there and tell my own stories (you can REALLY tell where the influence draws in here, it leaves me unhappily mixed)... I finally got back into comic making, simply to just give myself SOMETHING.

✿✿

In my personal history's records, this vent-comic series alone is the ONLY comic to ever reach as close to its 100% completion as it did, having stopped at the 9th and final entry during the 3rd phase of a final boss fight (in context, at '[BOSS] Ordeal of Color').

Efforts into the comic were, then, disseminated into the side-B sequel to ISOLATION called "GENOCIDE" -- which really put "vent" into the genre of these comics to the test. The soundtrack for that project, unfortunately, had a few tracks left in an incomplete state simply because I perceived them to be out of my ken of being able to compose.

But the desire to begin with Side-B before Side-A, alongside school's prioritization being the ironic nail in the shared coffin, ultimately caused the project to fail to be completed.

However, I don't necessarily want to give up on this one...
Maybe one day -- not any time remotely soon, -- the comic will be seen to its completion, regardless of the poor writing (I was fucking 16, what did you expect?), and regardless of the art quality inevitably ending up with a jarring contrast.

But I don't want to make promises I can't keep. Even as I'm writing this, reflecting over what is left to be done will exhaust me, and I believe that recapturing the drive and muse of the comic during its climax that it had 5 years later will be impossible. So to be safe... please, don't be surprised if it ends up never happening. :(

As for where the comic can be found? I'm not sure, yet. Originally, it was posted to Tumblr back in 2015 and shared amongst local friends and a very scarce few online friends that I could trust with the comic. But I'll have to find another way to portray the comic without pre-spoiling any of the pages, elsewhere.

The accompanying music for the Side-B story of ISOLATION called "GENOCIDE" will come later, and be linked here: jusu-tengu.bandcamp.com/album/genocide-ast
